Structural Engineering Laboratory

The Japanese archipelago is one of the most seismically active areas in the world. As the development of urban areas become more challenging, forcing vertical expansion of space utilization, Hazama’s research and development activities have expanded to include every phase of the construction process. Hazama’s reaction floor and walls method, and its shaking table technology, which controls motion from six axes, enable real-scale 5-story structural and vibration experiments.

Reaction Floor and Walls Testing System

The reaction floor and walls testing system is used for the setting of specimens or loading systems during loading tests for structures. The length of the reaction floor is 32.5 meters, and the two reaction walls enable two-direction loading. The reaction wall can resist 10,000tfm of bending moment and 4,000tf of sheer force. The Laboratory carries out advanced seismic experiments and real-time, high-speed loading tests utilizing an online computer-controlled actuator system.

Shaking Table Testing System

The facility’s high-performance shaking table can accommodate specimens up to a weight of 80t and simulate seismic behavior of large-scale specimens with a high degree of accuracy. The facility can carry out vibration tests on any type of structure, controlling both horizontal axes and vertical axes simultaneously.
